Retrogrades in Astrology
A planet is retrograde when its observed zodiacal longitude decreases from Earth's viewpoint. It has not turned around in its orbit. The apparent reversal comes from the changing geometry of Earth and the other planet as both move around the Sun.

Retrogrades: apparent motion, not a planet reversing its orbit
A retrograde period is a change in a planet's apparent motion against the zodiac as seen from Earth. Before and after the backward interval, its motion appears to slow and change direction at points called stations. The Sun and Moon are not retrograde in the standard geocentric zodiacal framework used for these charts.
The astrological language of revisiting and reviewing draws on that apparent retracing of a path. In everyday terms, it can be used to ask whether an unfinished conversation needs attention, whether a plan needs revision or whether you have made an assumption worth checking. Those are useful questions at other times too; the symbolism is not evidence that normal activities become unsafe or doomed during the period.
A natal retrograde is the motion recorded at birth, while a current retrograde describes a temporary interval in the moving sky. Neither should be read without the particular planet and chart context. In transit work, the practical importance is often repeated contact with a natal degree. Check the actual sequence rather than assuming every retrograde affects every placement or produces exactly three passes.

A worked example: crossing the same degree three times
Imagine Mercury moving forward past 15° Virgo, later moving backward across it, then crossing it once more after turning direct. If a natal point lies there, an astrologer may track repeated contacts. The relevant dates come from an ephemeris, not from a blanket rule about the whole month.

A station is the apparent turning point between forward and backward movement in zodiacal longitude. The planet has not physically stopped orbiting. Use actual ephemeris dates if you want to follow that transition precisely.
Why do retrograde periods sometimes produce repeated aspects to the same natal planet?+
A planet may cross a degree moving forward, return over it while retrograde and cross again after turning direct. Whether this happens depends on the retrograde range and natal degree, not simply on the planet being retrograde.
Can the Sun or Moon be retrograde in a standard geocentric birth chart?+
Their zodiacal longitude does not show the same retrograde reversals as the planets in a standard geocentric chart. Do not apply a Mercury-retrograde interpretation to them or confuse ordinary lunar phases with retrograde motion.
